The badger has short legs and a flat body covered with
long silvery-gray hairs that drag along the ground.
HOME
Badgers live underground.
They line the home with leaves and grass.
BABIES
Two to seven babies are born in late spring.
Mother badger teaches them how to hunt for food.
By fall, the young ones leave home.
Then they have to dig their own den.
A GOOD DIGGER
The claws on its front feet are long.
It can dig with all four feet.
Dirt flies in the air
and the badger disappears.
FOOD
Badgers usually come out at night to look for ground squirrels,
gophers, mice, rats, lizards and snakes.
They also eat birds' eggs.
The badger can dig quickly to get
an animal that is hiding in a burrow.
